Another shocking knife attack dominated the headlines. This time a 14-year-old boy died after the attacker, armed with a sword, went on the rampage in north-east London. I despair at all these knife incidents. What on earth is going on! Stop and search must be continued, along with a host of other initiatives, not least educating those at school that carrying a knife is not the answer and never has been. After a morning run, I headed over to the MOD with the Defence Committee for a private meeting on crisis management. Amusingly, on the way out, a small group of us got stuck in the secure holding area by the entrance when the door failed to open. It was eventually done manually. A most interesting briefing though. That lasted some two hours, so a quick sandwich lunch at my desk and then a virtual meeting with a fisherman, who I shall try and help. A private meeting with Suella Braverman was made all the harder by six votes, but we managed to chat between them. I learnt late in the day that my slip had been granted and down to Dorset I went to help any councillors who wanted it tomorrow. In other news, King Charles was named as the new patron of Cancer Research UK as he resumed public events for the first time since his diagnosis. Welcome back, Sir. Two men were charged in connection with the felling of the famous Sycamore Gap tree. In Scotland, Kate Forbes said she was considering a bid to succeed Humza Yousaf as SNP leader. And Donald Trump was held in contempt of court and fined $9,000 (£7,190) for repeatedly violating a gag order against him. You could not make this up!
